Short courses for engineers and technical professionals (Virtual or At Hanyang University or At your facility)

The Turbomachinery Laboratory at Hanyang University is offering private instruction and a variety of intensive short courses on rotordynamics, fundamentals of fluid film bearings, and gas bearings throughout the year.
The topics of the short courses are taught from Dr. Ryu's class notes, technical papers, and comprehensive literature with case studies. For more information, please contact Dr. Keun Ryu at kryu@hanyang.ac.kr or +82-31-400-5242 to design a short course combining what you need to know about rotordynamics and bearings.

Note that, in 2021, all short courses are held virtually because of the COVID-19 related travel restrictions.

2021 Special Short Course

Course title: Fundamentals of Gas Bearings and Their Applications: A Practical Guide for Engineers (4 days or 16 hours)

The course is designed to benefit intermediate-level R&D engineers, test engineers, and application engineers in energy, propulsion, and power industries who want to learn about modern gas bearing technologies.

The course consists of the following topics:
  1) General design guideline and limits for gas bearings (4 hours including Q&A)
  2) Practical performance of gas bearings (4 hours including Q&A)
  3) Gas bearings for modern applications (4 hours including Q&A)
  4) Gas bearings in turbomachinery at extreme operating conditions (4 hours including Q&A)

The course provides practicing engineers with an extensive review and basics of gas bearing technologies, fundamental theory/analysis and experimental verification of gas bearing systems, the integration of gas bearings into high-temperature turbomachinery rotor-bearing systems, practical design consideration for thrust gas bearings, as well as an introduction to gas bearings with fundamental theory and their high-speed applications.
